John: Hi, Jane! I’m a bit confused about using superlative adjectives. Can you help me?
Jane: Of course, John! Superlative adjectives are used to describe the highest degree of something. For example, if we are talking about the ‘biggest’ apple in this store, we use ‘biggest’ because it’s larger than all the others.
John: I see. So, it’s like saying this apple is the ‘most delicious’ one I’ve ever tasted?
Jane: Exactly! But remember, for adjectives with one syllable, we add ‘-est’ and for adjectives with two or more syllables, we use ‘most’. However, there are irregulars like ‘best’, ‘worst’, and ‘farthest’.
John: Got it! So, this is the ‘cheapest’ food store in town?
Jane: You’re catching on! Because “cheap” has one syllable, we add ‘-est’ to make it ‘cheapest’.
John: Thanks, Jane! Now I can confidently say that this store has the ‘freshest’ vegetables!
